Everything Has Already Been Invented

Everything Has Already Been Invented

A lot of the people in the world are waiting for a new invention to come along and solve all the worlds problems. Maybe we need cheap power or free energy. More power from less fuel and on and on. We all are looking for something that does not exist yet. With the fact that all most all mechanical inventions have been built in the past 100 years. Once the lathe and Mill were created there is almost nothing that can not be made in the mechanical world. Now in the last 50 years the inventors have focused on electronic and computer technology. It has been an incredible leap in technology from almost nothing using electric to almost everything we own either needing batteries of some kind or tethered to the wall outlet. Now with the requirement to make cheap power or even free power we look for a new technology to make it all work for nothing or next to nothing.

When it comes to mechanical inventions between the Lever, the Inclined Plane and the wheel. Just about any type of mechanical device can be made. These simple machines were used to make the Lathe and Mill the first precision machine tools which have been used to build all other machines to follow. Every type of industrial machine tool was made using a Mill and Lathe. Even today’s robots CNC systems are still basically the same thing with more refinement. Now that the refinement is added into the mix we can make almost any type of part size or shape. From spheres to wheels to complex designs that are best cast than machined. but in all cases the Lathe and Mill are used to make the first part the prototype. In the world of plastics they are used ot make the molds that produce parts by the thousands or even millions. But it all comes down to the first three simple machines.

It is clear we have needs and in the future those needs will be met one way or the other. Once we look into the problems we find many solutions that seem as if they would work. If we were all to put everything into solving these problems today we would find very quickly that there are many solutions not all will work in all situations. Some are simple and could save us all from pollution and waste but others are much more complex to solve.

As for electrical power in most of the US we could cover the roof of every house with solar panels and provide electric for an entire town and maybe even more than we could ever use. But with the single focus we have toward technology its almost impossible to get an entire small town on the same page even three people living next door to each other may all want something different. If we as a people and community could all work towards solving some basic issues for ourselves and for our neighbors. A simple solar farm that covers miles of farm land can help the community solve its power problems. But why don’t we have these mounted on all of our roofs. We could all solve the problem for all the people that live near us and the people that live near them. Instead the money we spend to solve problems like this goes to a company that keeps all of us from the benefits that should be available to all. With the simple act of refusing to work together we have all stopped progress. With this in mind i write this article. It is clear that we all have the technology to we need to have free energy and other things we have all strives for. There is no need for a new invention to make it all work we just need to use what is in our hands to its fullest potential.

Fuel for cars and trucks is much simpler than many think. Natural gas, alcohol, bio diesel and electric technologies are out there and work well enough to make it possible. In the early days of cars there were few roads and even less gas stations. We were able to make it all work thru dedication and desire to be free to travel on our own. We have lost this simple desire not because we lack drive but because we have an alternative. As long as another way exists we will not move forward without dedication to the cause.  Brazil has proved that a large country can use alcohol and other fuels to off set oil when forced to. At this point we are simply not forced to make the hard choices that make it possible. If we were to all pull together nothing we want is beyond our grasp.

With all the things we have made we have not been able to solve some of life’s more complex problems. But they do not lay outside our grasp. Just outside of our willingness grab them.

Distributed Powertrain System for Cars and Trucks

Distributed Powertrain System for Cars and Trucks

My next nutty ideal is to distribute the power train of the normal automobile around the car into four sections. Now Moving parts has always been the killer of complex machinery so the more moving parts the more likely the failure. That is a very true statement but with cars we have vetted many parts and know how long and how much abuse eac part can really take. So with quality control and proper testing Four small engine and transmissions could work. And may be eaith just as heavy or even lighter. Think about it the trans in most high power modern cars weigh half a ton and are still prone to failure as they are required to transfer 500 lbs of torque that could break any trans with a little effect from the driver.

Tiny engines: There are lots to choose from many are easy to find and have lots of power for there size.

Constant variable transmissions: These days there are lots of off the shelf CVT available around the world that can take torque in the 100 lbs range. Now try to use the same tech for 500 or 1000 Ft Lbs of torque and there is nothing you would need to build it and it would be hugh that is a major problem with some engine tech it does not scale well. This is very clear in steam engines. A 10 hp steam engine is rather small only twice the size of a 10 hp gas. Now ramp it up to 200 hp and the gas engine fits in many small packages but the steam engine is the size of a train or large truck.

Cost with low cost engine and trans it should be possible to sell cheap replacements and make the entire system modular.

Single Seat Commuter Sports Car

Single Seat Commuter Sports Car

I personally spend hours a day in my car. Doing so means I have owned a lot of cars in my lifetime. A short list would fill this post. From a 69 caddy to an 928s and one thing I noticed most of all is the passenger seat is almost always empty. I never drive anyone to work with me. So my work papers and laptop usually occupies the passengers seat. Now I want a car with some power and good handling that is not boring to drive. I also need good gas mileage and reasonable emissions from the tail pipe. I own a few cars that are not emissions friendly because of there age. But I do not drive these cars 100K mile a year. So I sat down one night and tried to think of all the things I really need in a work car. Quickly I found the list was very short. The feature list in todays cars is very long in deed.

1. Some power – does not need to be a lot but a nice amount of punch is desirable.

2. Elbow room – I need to be able to move my arms around and not feel jammed into the car.

3. A nice seat – I don’t want to get out of the car and have my back sore from driving.

4. Good mileage – No need to waste gas on an Escalade sized suv just to get a nice seat in the car

5. Good emissions – Any newer engine should be able to run very clean even with good performance

6. Large gas tank – More of a want than a need don’t want to stop for a fill up twice a day.

Now looking at that list many of those features are not offered on affordable or fuel efficient cars. In order to get a comfortable car you need to buy a caddy or a merc. Neither is responsible or needed for one person to drive to work. I have a Honda civic great car. But lacks in many areas and really you just cant make it al right. Power is easy a seat well I could swipe something from a caddy and make it fit. But I am still jammed to one side of the car and not as comfortable as I would wish.

Now build a car from the ground up to meet these features you can get all of them with no problem. As long as your willing to have a single seat car many of those feature could fit in a much smaller and more practical package.

I made a few drawings on my limited cad program and decided that if I was going to build myself them I would build it out of steel tube with nascar style chassis. I realize a steel tube chassis will be heavy but also very strong. No reason not to have one that is as safe as I can get it. I also liked the idea of using a motor cycle engine in my prototypes. Lot of power with engine and trans in one package along with good mileage and power. Another good deal is most cycle engines are pretty cheap when talking about the new price of todays power plants. Also many bike engine are very self contained so there is not a lot of support equipment needed to run a bike engine. I considered using a single cylinder engine with a turbo charger or other forced induction system. But with the range of bike engines on the market the choice is not an easy one. Many got the power to drive a small car and many more have the power to push a new type of car with smaller foot print and better aerodynamics. A typical small car wheel base is plenty of room for a single person to ride comfortably.

Here are a few basic drawings. They are not good try not to fault me too much on my “idea drawings” these are far from blueprints.

As you can see the chassis is made as a comfortable but will feature a roll cage built into the door/roof. I have also tried to come up with a system to open the roll cage for a side access style door although it is not represented in this picture. There are several small cars on the market as track day cars that have similar feature but they are not made for daily driving and not roomy at all.

Steam Power for Hunting cabin

I had also thought this would be great way to heat and power hunting and fishing cabins. Usally wood is easy to come by and power line are none to be found. Most people on these areas make do either without power or

Steam Powered Generator

Steam Powered Generator

Not new inventions but new ways of doing things for modern living.

Steam Powered Generator designed to run off flammable Gas (Propane or even swamp gas or pig gas), liquid fuel, solid fuel (wood coal) or trash. Running a steam engine on trash is a great idea for me. I live in a rural area and don’t get trash service. We just burn it. But if we could burn it and produce power for the house or portable power. I would love to build a trailer setup that you could take to a job sight and run off wood or construction trash and still produce enough power to run the job site just like a large diesel generator. Anyone who works in the woods or on remote job sites will tell you it would be nice to have heat, power and the ability to have steam powered cleaner is not bad. In my case I just wanted to power my house with it. Wood is cheaper than gasoline here and if the power goes out it would be nice to have a good backup source I could run for days without major expense. I would also love to capture some low temperature steam to heat the house. The waste product of a steam engine will make a house nice and toasty.

With todays tech it would be possible to build a burner that could support burning many types of fuel cleanly and effectively along with added benefit of safety and lower emissions than just having a barrel or burn pile to burn up construction trash or debris. Of course this would not be practical in the city or other areas where fuel is not easy to come by. If you got to pay full price the gasoline generator is still way cheaper and easy to run. Toss in todays lawyers and peoples inability to operate even the simplest device it is an invention that will never be built but could truly be useful to a few of us out here.

Welcome to My site for my goofy inventions

Welcome to My site for my goofy inventions.

I have been a tinker and inventor for years. Not really a job or even a hobby but I love to come up with an idea and build working models or prototypes. Normally I just make my self one and not really worried about anything else. I have a Lather and Mill both very small but usable for most of my projects.

I do have plans to work more on my inventions and ideas later in life but don’t really have the time to do anything. But I have some ideas that are killing me to get out and on paper. Or in this case the web.

Not new inventions but new ways of doing things for modern living.
